Composition
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to write music. Here are some of my better works.

AdriftThis piece I wrote to be a little less abstract and more an exploration of themes. It took roughly a week to write and mix using Logic and Finale 2009. I feel it is one of my better pieces for showing off my orchestration skills. The original blog post about it can be read here. I hope to work with this piece more in future to make it the first movement of a larger suite.

Fire and WaterThe first movement of my larger work, Flux, a Study on the Greek Elements. I have already written a second movement, and I plan to write two more. The performance here is from my senior recital. The performers had only a few weeks time to learn their parts, but they did so rather well. Here we have Matthew Weiner on Violin, John Mescall on Cello, and Megumi Ito on Piano.
Typically, I name pieces early on, or come up with a name then compose a piece that the name inspires; this one was different. I wrote the sections to be as contrasting as possible; the first and final thirds are fast, in phrygian mode, and use asymmetrical or compound meters. The middle section is comprised of a far more steady pulse (4/4 time), but with contrasting 3 vs 2 rhythms in dorian mode. As I was close to finished, I named the piece Fire and Water because of its contrasting feelings. The original blog post about it can be found here. |
Elegy of the Falling LeafMy first work for full wind ensemble, this piece saw its first performance on April 7th 2012. The original blog post with more information on it can be found here. From start to finish, it took about 8 months to get the entire project done. I wrote and arranged all parts myself with help from Dr. Royce Tevis (the conductor of the ensemble) and my composition professor, David Dvorin.
I positioned both cameras myself and then made all my own video edits using Final Cut Pro. I then synched the video with audio I had recorded from three different locations to make the audio you hear now. I do have an HD version of the video, which was too large to post here. |
Video Game Compositions
Here is a collection of music for games that I've worked on
Communists Vs Zombies, Level 2In the Fall of 2011, I joined up with Chico State Game Studios to work on Communists VS Zombies, a game about a Russian Commissar in WWII Stalingrad fighting off waves of the undead. It was a blast working on the game, and this was what I think to be the best of the pieces I wrote for it.
This piece was written entirely using Logic 9 and the built in samples that came with it. The original blog post can be found here.
